Members of Hamilton鈥檚 Class of 2024 have walked off the Commencement stage, canes in hand, and out into the world ready to make a difference.

In a letter to the editor titled 鈥淲hat鈥檚 in a mane? Everything, if it honors treason and slavery鈥� in The Washington Post, Visiting Professor of History Ty Seidule emphasized that 鈥淲hom we honor reflects our values.鈥�

When Professor of Art Bill Salzillo retires in June, it will mark more than the end of a productive 50-plus year career. The artist, teacher, and gallery director is the last member of the Hamilton faculty to have begun his tenure at Kirkland College.

With 10 teams in, action, the spring sports semester was a busy one, capped off with honors for senior athletes. In its final meeting of the 2023-24 academic year in May, the Hamilton Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa elected 22 members of the Class of 2024. They join the 27 other members of the class who were elected in October and February.

Former Sen. Doug Jones, a U.S. attorney in Alabama who prosecuted accomplices in the racially motivated 1963 16th St. Baptist Church bombing, addressed the 493 members of the graduating class at Hamilton鈥檚 commencement, urging them to be guardians of democracy. The ceremony took place on Sunday, May 19, in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House.

Chloe and Olivia Chiota came to Hamilton four years ago as a package deal. The identical twins from Southborough, Mass., knew they wanted to play lacrosse together and be challenged academically. Several NESCAC colleges made their list, but one thing stood out about Hamilton.

Dean of Faculty Ngoni Munemo recognized eight faculty members with Dean鈥檚 Scholarly Achievement Awards in three categories 鈥� career achievement, early career achievement, and notable year 鈥� at the May 14 faculty meeting.

Lisa Trivedi, the Christian A. Johnson Excellence in Teaching Professor of History, joined the faculty in 2000 and took over the role of College Marshal this academic year from Margaret Thickstun, the Jane Watson Irwin Professor of Literature.
