Hamilton saluted employees for exceptional service and milestone anniversaries at the 39th Employee Service Recognition luncheon on May 15. President David Wippman announced winners of the Beverly S. and Eugene M. Tobin Employee Awards, and the recipient of the Wertimer-Couper Award.

Kate Burnham 鈥�23 won the top prize in the Oral Communication Center鈥檚 Three Minute Thesis Competition on April 29. The sociology major鈥檚 topic was 鈥淲hat Does it Mean to be Spicy Smart? Elucidating the Experiences of Students with Learning Disabilities at an Academically Rigorous College.鈥�

Dean of Faculty Ngoni Munemo recognized 10 faculty members with Dean鈥檚 Scholarly Achievement Awards in three categories 鈥� career achievement, early career achievement, and notable year 鈥� at the May 2 faculty meeting. These awards recognize individual accomplishment and reflect a richness and depth of scholarship and creative activity across the faculty.

Hamilton鈥檚 highest awards for teaching excellence were presented to three faculty members by Dean of Faculty Ngoni Munemo during the May 2 faculty meeting. Munemo said 50 nominations from students were received for the awards.

Some 159 students were honored with academic prizes and scholarships, and faculty were recognized for receiving teaching awards and dean鈥檚 scholarly achievement prizes, at Hamilton鈥檚 annual Class & Charter Day convocation on May 9. Earning special recognition were Ryan Smolarsky 鈥�23, who received the James Soper Merrill Prize, and Eleanor 鈥淓llie鈥� Sangree 鈥�24, who was awarded the Fillius Drown Scholarship.

Six Hamilton seniors have been awarded U.S. State Department Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships for 2023-24.

Dewayne Martin 鈥�24 has been awarded a 2023 Truman Scholarship, the nation鈥檚 premiere scholarship for students interested in pursuing public service. Martin becomes the second Hamilton student to receive the award created in 1975; the first was Frederick Nelson in 1978.

Elliot Carlson '23 and Jacob Gliedman '23 won this year鈥檚 Pitch Competition and $20,000 for their comprehensive career services platform RAIN, a product meant to 鈥渄isrupt the job search process鈥� by providing a way for job-seekers to explore, create, network, and execute the job recruitment process, all in one platform.

Hamilton students take on unique projects that reflect their talents and interests. In many cases, they collaborate with faculty mentors on this work, which often leads to co-authored papers, joint presentations at professional conferences, and professors mentoring students during academic competitions. Four students were awarded prizes in three categories in the annual Public Speaking Competition held on March 4. Presentations were either persuasive or informative in nature, and in one category, students addressed an assigned topic.
