In its final meeting of the 2022-23 academic year, the Hamilton Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa elected 25 members of the Class of 2023.

Retired Navy Adm. Michelle J. Howard, the first female four-star admiral and chair of the 2020-22 Congressional Naming Commission, presented remarks to the Class of 2023 at Hamilton鈥檚 211th commencement on Sunday, May 21. Other speakers included Ryan Smolarsky 鈥23, recipient of the James Soper Merrill Prize, and class speaker Juliet Davidson 鈥23.

Dean of Faculty Ngoni Munemo recognized 10 faculty members with Dean鈥檚 Scholarly Achievement Awards in three categories 鈥 career achievement, early career achievement, and notable year 鈥 at the May 2 faculty meeting. These awards recognize individual accomplishment and reflect a richness and depth of scholarship and creative activity across the faculty.

Dewayne Martin 鈥24 has been awarded a 2023 Truman Scholarship, the nation鈥檚 premiere scholarship for students interested in pursuing public service. Martin becomes the second Hamilton student to receive the award created in 1975; the first was Frederick Nelson in 1978.

Elliot Carlson '23 and Jacob Gliedman '23 won this year鈥檚 Pitch Competition and $20,000 for their comprehensive career services platform RAIN, a product meant to 鈥渄isrupt the job search process鈥 by providing a way for job-seekers to explore, create, network, and execute the job recruitment process, all in one platform.
