On-again, off-again rain showers couldn’t put a damper on the bright spirits, as Hamilton alumni gathered for a memorable Reunion Weekend, June 6–9. More than 1,000 alumni, family, and friends returned to the Hill for reminiscing, traditions, and events galore.

In its final meeting of the 2023-24 academic year in May, the Hamilton Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa elected 22 members of the Class of 2024. They join the 27 other members of the class who were elected in October and February.

Former Sen. Doug Jones, a U.S. attorney in Alabama who prosecuted accomplices in the racially motivated 1963 16th St. Baptist Church bombing, addressed the 493 members of the graduating class at Hamilton’s commencement, urging them to be guardians of democracy. The ceremony took place on Sunday, May 19, in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House.

Dean of Faculty Ngoni Munemo recognized eight faculty members with Dean’s Scholarly Achievement Awards in three categories — career achievement, early career achievement, and notable year — at the May 14 faculty meeting.

Julien Swoap ’24 won first place in the Oral Communication Center’s Three Minute Thesis competition on April 27. The neuroscience major spoke on Investigating the Impact of Intrusive Thoughts on Selective Attention.

Hamilton honored employees for exceptional service and milestone anniversaries at the 40th Employee Service Recognition luncheon on May 13. President David Wippman announced winners of the Beverly S. and Eugene M. Tobin Employee Awards, and the recipient of the Wertimer-Couper Award.

Three faculty members were awarded Hamilton’s highest awards for teaching by Dean of Faculty Ngoni Munemo during the May 1 faculty meeting. Forty-seven nominations from students were received for the awards.

At the annual Class & Charter Day convocation on May 7, 158 students were honored with academic prizes and scholarships, and faculty teaching award recipients were recognized. Among top awards, Quinn Brown ’24, received the James Soper Merrill Prize, and Josef Kubofcik ’25 received the Fillius Drown Prize Scholarship.
