After graduation, Haley Hassell 鈥20 will begin work as an executive trainee with Ruder Finn, a public relations firm that is one of the world's largest privately owned communications agencies. After completing training, Hassell will work as an assistant account executive.

Libby Militello 鈥22 is a student writer for the Communications Office and was spending the spring semester on Hamilton鈥檚 Program in Washington, D.C. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she, like the rest of Hamilton鈥檚 students, was forced to return home to continue the semester remotely. In the following, Militello describes her search for an internship and how she鈥檚 adapting to her new role.

More than 75 members of the Hamilton community gathered via Zoom on April 29 to hear alumni experts discuss the challenges and realities of governing amidst a pandemic. The virtual panel, hosted by the Hamilton Career Network, featured Tom Vilsack 鈥72, former U.S. secretary of agriculture and governor of Iowa; Bill Purcell 鈥76, former mayor of Nashville; and Maura Calsyn 鈥95, managing director of health policy at the Center for American Progress.

The speaker, who was discussing the value of attending graduate school, imparted the following advice to the students sitting around the lunch table: 鈥淵ou must have the urge to ask the question 鈥榳hy?鈥欌

Hamilton鈥檚 Common Ground program ventured to the nation鈥檚 capital on Jan. 29 where a dozen students in the Washington, D.C., program and about 20 area alumni area engaged in discussion around impeachment.

'Teaching a language is really exciting in that you get these raw, unmolded people who don鈥檛 understand any of the language, and within a few months they鈥檙e already understanding quite a lot.'

This past summer, numerous Hamilton students watched presidential candidates travel the country debating, meeting voters, and addressing some of the most pressing issues facing America. Peri Kessler 鈥22, Jarrod Gerstein 鈥20, Gabrielle Colchete 鈥21, and Sarine Arzoumanian 鈥22 did more than follow the action鈥攖hey were on the ground organizing, fundraising, and spreading the messages of their respective candidates. Through their internships, each student had the opportunity to connect with the American political process and make a difference in the 2020 election cycle.
