When Steven Falco 鈥19 couldn't find a philosophy course that included all the 19th- and 20th-century philosophers he wanted to study, he applied for a Hamilton grant to create his own course.

Like many Hamilton students, Lucy Marr 鈥18 does not yet have a clear idea of what career lies in store for her on the other side of graduation. 鈥淎s you can see from my various concentrations, I am interested in a whole lot and haven鈥檛 narrowed it down much,鈥 she said.

Drew Castronovo 鈥19 hopes to travel one day to many of the world鈥檚 major volcanoes such as Fuji, Kilimanjaro, Pinatubo, Colima and Kiluaea. This summer he is tackling one that is just a little closer to the ground.

Before matriculating last fall, Gabriel Linden 鈥20 received an email telling him that he was selected to participate in the First-Year Forward (FYF) program on campus. This program is designed to encourage first-year students to pursue career related opportunities over the summer break following their first year. FYF helped Linden construct a strong resume, gave him interviewing tips, taught him how to write a cover letter, and allowed him access to the Hamilton alumni network, eventually leading him to his summer internship in medicine.

鈥淚鈥檝e always been interested in journalism, and thought that working at a magazine would be a great place to get started,鈥 Maura Colley 鈥19 said. Eventually, her choice came down to how well-organized and polished the publication was, both in print and online, leading Colley to Worth Magazine, where she works as an intern of the editorial team.

For Mattie Seamans 鈥18, autism and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) have long been topics that hit close to home. "I have a family member with ASD, and have always been interested in learning more." This summer, Seamans is interning at two organizations, the New England Center for Children (NECC) and the Lurie Center for Autism.

Bilal Mustafa 鈥19 first became acquainted with the subject of finance at Lahore University of Management Sciences in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, where he was enrolled for two years before transferring to 91制片厂. At Hamilton, his interest in the market blossomed, as he realized he much preferred learning about the economy outside a formal education structure. This summer, Mustafa is putting his financial knowledge to the test, interning at global markets and financial advisory firm StormHarbour.

Last fall, Chenchen Zhao 鈥18 took Linear Optimization, a mathematics course with Professor Sally Cockburn. Zhao and Cockburn are designing an integer linear program that places incoming students into orientation groups, with as many as possible getting their top choices.
