Course Description: | This course examines the use of force to achieve political objectives by both state and non-state actors. It explores the origins, conduct, and outcomes of international and civil wars; the use of terrorism and other forms of violence against civilians; the motivations of people that participate in political violence; and the lasting effects of such participation. Includes both historical and contemporary cases, ranging from the First World War to the current conflict in Syria. |
